Find the Policy that Meets Your Needs and Your Budget

What Does It Mean to Have a Good Auto Insurance Policy?

Auto Insurance

Let's start by asking this question: Do you know what you're paying for?

At the insurance company I'm with (the Hubbell Agency, Everett, WA) we like to explain to our clients what your coverage does for you and your family.

We break this down into 3 important coverages.

Liability / Bodily Injury (Coverage for the other person)

This is what is required by the state to protect yourself and your family in the event of an at-fault accident - where you're the driver at fault. If liable we have to pay for lost wages, death or disability. When we drive our vehicle we are driving with our assets in our trunk. If you don't have any assets your wages can be garnished.

State minimum is 25/50/10. The first number pays up to $25,000 for per person, $50,000 per occurrence and $10,000 for property damage (car, fence, house, etc.) Example: IF you hit a 30 year old and he/she is dead or disabled this person can now sue for $1.5 million in lost wages that he/she would have expected to receive over the course of their life. As you can see the state minimum might only cover a broken leg and a car under a $10,000 value! This is why it's KEY to have no gaps in coverage but also not to beat up your wallet.

We're talking small dollars spent vs. big dollars demanded if you're not protected.

Under / Uninsured Motorist (Protection for you and your family from people who are at-fault and cannot pay)

To make this easy this coverage is opposite of above. This protects you and your family in the event somebody hits you with no insurance or not enough insurance. This will cover your CAR and MEDICAL bills.

Your Car

This is where we can now discuss what it means to say "I have full coverage". Simply put this just means you have COMPREHENSIVE & COLLISION coverage. If you hit a car/tree that's Collision -- if a tree falls on your car (and you're covered) that's Comprehensive. So colliding into something is collision... all the other things vandalism, theft, glass, fire is Comprehensive.

Normal Deductibles would be $500 Collision and $100 Comprehensive. Of course, the higher the deductible the lower your premium.

Home Insurance/CONDO

You have worked very hard to get here, make sure your have the insurance protection built for you. Coverage for your property:

Where will I live if a disaster strikes my home?
If your home becomes unlivable we will take care of your living expenses up to 12 months.

What do I do if a guest gets hurt on my property?
Your home coverage covers you for guest medical, could help in the event of lawsuit.

How do I ask questions about a claim without my rates going up?
You will know us by name and will not have to tell your story 10 times to 10 different people. From our experience we will advice you if it's worth making a claim or not. Also we offer claim forgiveness! What happens to your policy if you make a claim?

CONDO
Remember your association only covers the area outside the walls of your condo. They do not care about your property or anything else in your condo.

Scheduling personal property
Insure things of value. Furs, jewelry, watches etc…. This will cover them for all named PERILS on the policy.

Renters Insurance

Can you afford to start from scratch?
The average Renter has $28,000 in personal property.
The average Renters policy is $15 a month!
Do the math -- it's cheap to have a renter's policy, and it's well worth it for the peace of mind knowing that you and your belongings are protected.

Is my personal property covered in my car?
NO! Your renter's policy covers your belongings in your car or in storage. Just like a homeowner this great coverage pays for living expenses up to 12 months if a disaster happens. A renters policy covers you in the event of lawsuit as well. My cousin had a kitchen fire and her landlord filed a lawsuit against her. Customize your policies the way your needs are.

Life Insurance

Protect your biggest asset, your life.

I have life insurance through work. Isn't that enough?
Some employers offer life insurance. Make sure to review it. Most offer $50-$100,000 in coverage. For most families this would only last 1 year. For most people that may not be enough. Also if you change work usually your policy is void. Smart thing to do with life insurance: Consider supplementing this with a second life insurance policy.

How much life protection do I need?
The big thing is to make sure that your loved ones do not go under with debt and can pay the bills. Every person is different but a good rule of thumb is to get protection for approximately 7x your annual salary.

How much does it cost?
Depending on what you get and who you are your premium can be a lot different. The shocker for most people is that it doesn't have to break your bank account. You just might want to start with a term policy and lock in your health; once you can afford a permanent policy you can then convert it.

How do I decide what kind of policy is right for me?

It's good to know the advantages and disadvantages for both. The best is to schedule a time so we can see what policy works for you and your budget. The big thing is to get something going NOW. You don't want to wait until a tree falls on your house to get home owners insurance or for somebody to hit our car while you're grocery shopping. The same applies for life insurance. Don't wait until a bad event strikes. It will strike for many people at some point. Choose a low-cost policy today and have the peace of mind that you are protected.
